Last week, all students were informed of some potential changes to the 2017 Music Department Trip. We thought it was important for the parents to know exactly what was communicated, so here is a summary of what was said to the students:
1. We are in process of changing the itinerary for our LHS Music Department Trip for March of 2017. Jim Farrell and I have met with Dr. Oaks, the LPS Director of Secondary Education, and Urte Land (our Travel Agent) about the concerns that we have taking students to northern Europe in light of the recent ISIS related attacks and subsequent events as well as the Travel Alert that has been placed by the U.S. on travel to all of mainland Europe. We are committed to finalizing a trip that is reasonable and as safe as we can monitor at this time.
2. The total cost of the new trip will be the same or less than the original trip. We are committed to not proposing a new trip that is at a price higher than that of the originally proposed Holland, Belgium and Germany trip.
3. We will have the official new trip proposal ready by the second week of May. At that time, students and trip tag-a-long's who are already registered for the Holland-Belgium-Germany trip will be able to stay onboard for the new trip or they may request a full and complete refund at that time. Also, we will allow anyone else who would like to join the new trip to do so at that time as well. In either of these instances, we will need a confirmation of each person's decision before June 1st.
At this point in time, we are not offering information on the trips that we are pursuing because it is too early in the process to know if these trips are completely viable at this point in terms of performance opportunities and total trip cost. We will present our final trip choice as soon as we are able to do so.
Thank you for your continued support of the LHS Music Department.
