Fw: Hosting for Students from Takayama, Japan - URGENT!

All LHS Band Parents,

As most of you are aware, we are hosting 23 students from Takayama,
Japan next month.  The students, ages 13 - 17, will be arriving on
Friday afternoon, August 9th and will be with you until Monday morning
August 12th.  I just received the student housing list from Takayama,
Japan and we will need the following hosting arrangements:

3 families able to house a single female student each
7 families able to house 2 female students each
3 families able to house 2 male students each

So far, the following LHS Band families have indicated their
willingness to host students from Takayama, Japan next month:

Emmons - 2 female students
Volling - 1 female student
Shigaya - 2 students (either male or female)
Coleman - 1 or 2 female students
Staab - 1 female student
Vander Leest - possibly 1 female student
Elliott - possibly 2 male students
Calkins - 2 students (either male or female)

We still need 5 more families who would be willing to host 2 students,
either 2 boys together or 2 girls together.  Please let Mr. Emmons
know by July 19th if you would be able to host a few students for us.
Also, feel free to contact Mr. Emmons if you have any questions or
concerns.  A couple of reminders, we do have activities planned for
the entire time the students are here with us so that you do not feel
that you have to entertain the students all on your own.  Also, since
the students are here to have an experience with an American family,
anything you do works out very well for this weekend.  Finally, this
is a fund-raiser that will benefit the entire band program, so we
really do need your help.

Also, we will be having a Band Parent work day on Saturday, August 3rd
from 9:30am to 2pm.  You can come anytime and there will be projects
for everyone to work on.  Guys, bring some tools!!

We are in need of one more parent who would be willing and available to drive 6 of our percussion students back from Alamosa on Tuesday, June 25th.  You will need to be at Adams State College by 4pm in Alamosa for the closing performance and then drive the students home here to LHS.  We anticipate you and students being back to LHS between 10 - 11pm.

Please let me know ASAP if you could assist us with driving some of our percussionists back from Alamosa on Tuesday.

New deadline for Parent band apparel is Friday July 19th.

For those of you who are new parents to Marching Band, parent apparel is worn when helping the band during parades and competitions.  The first event that will require apparel will be the Western Welcome parade on August 17th.  Those parents who plan to walk with the band should order a parent shirt if you don't already own one.  Order forms are available on the band website:


Email your orders to Jenni Wainner at lhsencoretreasurer@gmail.com.  Payment isn't due until the shirts are delivered.

Our parent volunteers this year for various important support areas are:

Carrie McNealy - Uniforms
Cindy Emmons - CBA and volunteer coordinator

Jenni Wainner - treasurer and gift cards, website

For those of you not yet involved, we need all our parents in some volunteer capacity!  This supports your students! 

The theme for this year's show is Alter Ego, with songs from spy movies and super heroes!

There are 16 tickets left for Drums Along the Rockies, to be held at Sports Authority Stadium July 6.  Tickets are $20.

We need host families for 24 students from Japan August 9-12th.  This is a fundraiser for the band!  There are lots of activities planned to keep the students occupied, and host families are invited to all of them.

Parent band apparel is now available to order.  The order form is on the website:

Dear LHS "Lion Pride" Marching Band Members and Supporters,

Here are a few items that I would like you to be aware of:


  •   I have 32 tickets still available for the Drums Along the Rockies Drum Corps International (DCI) Show at Sports Authority Stadium at Mile High in downtown Denver on Saturday July 6th.  Tickets are $20 each ($25 seats).  The show features 4 of the top 10 Corps in the U.S. as well as the first appearance ever of the Carolina Crown to the state of Colorado.  Tickets are on a first-come first-served basis.  Please make checks payable to ENCORE.  



  •   Attached is a Flier from an organization titled "Support Our Schools".  We have partnered with them for a wonderful discount at the Melting Pot restaurant this month, a $5 donation to LHS Instrumental Music through their website gets you $25 off a meal for two at the Melting Pot.  Please feel free to pass this information flier on to anyone who you believe might enjoy taking advantage of this offer.



  • The next LHS Band Camp is on Monday June 10, through Thursday June 13th from 9am - 4pm each day.  
 
  • We also have our first LHS "Lion Pride" Marching Band Parent Meeting on Tuesday June 11th from 7 - 8pm in the Band room.
